Michelle Gurevich’s seventh album, created in her own bedroom — It Was the Moment — will certainly not disappoint listeners expecting yet another soundtrack for darkness and saudade from her music. Written and produced during a period of grief and psychological instability, the album is considered one of Michelle’s most honest and emotionally exposed works. These songs reveal an entirely new level of emotional surrender rooted in the tradition of dramatic chansonniers.

The album’s central themes include fatalistic surrender to passion, the fleeting nature of encounters, the loss of mother and home, the end of the world, and the loss of one’s own mind — in both the most beautiful and most painful forms. Here, Michelle fully unveils her musical palette, ranging from Lynchian dark realism to refined humor and full-fledged epic melodrama queen energy.

Her concerts regularly sell out in cities such as Istanbul, Berlin, Warsaw, and Athens. Michelle has cultivated a unique audience that unites the East-European diaspora, the Berlin queer scene, and listeners devoted to melodramatic balladry in the style of Charles Aznavour, Zeki Müren, and Nikolai Slichenko.

Although her live performances now feature more live instrumentation and an expanded lineup of musicians, Michelle continues to write, produce, and release her albums independently, preserving a rare intimacy and unity of expression — from her bedroom to you. Her music is partly built on melody and style, but above all on her uniquely fatalist-celebratory approach to songwriting.
