💡 On October 9, the Academy of Thinking will host a salon-style conversation with psychotherapist Soso Dolidze on the topic: “Loneliness in Modern Society.”
👉 We live in the most densely populated and digitally connected era in human history, yet at the same time, we are experiencing an unprecedented epidemic of isolation. Surrounded by millions of people in large cities, immersed in a constant stream of notifications, and connected to hundreds of online acquaintances, modern individuals paradoxically feel profoundly unseen. By breaking our ancient connection with nature and replacing organic rhythms with artificial ones, society has transformed physical proximity into emotional distance.
To understand modern loneliness, we need to look beyond the surface and examine the architecture of the human psyche.
At a deeper level, loneliness often reflects challenges rooted in early development — an unconscious longing for safety, emotionally fulfilling parental care, and an unconditional sense of belonging that civilization seems to demand we suppress. As we adopt social masks to survive in today’s competitive environment, we become increasingly disconnected from our deeper, authentic nature.
When loneliness shifts from necessary temporary solitude into a chronic state, the psychological consequences can be severe. Deprived of genuine emotional connection, the mind interprets prolonged isolation as an existential threat. This can lead to chronic psychological hypervigilance and distort perception. In such a state, even being alone with oneself — an essential condition for growth and insight — can feel overwhelming and destructive. Over time, chronic loneliness can erode empathy, undermine self-esteem, and deepen depressive states.
🍰 Guests will enjoy refreshments and a pleasant atmosphere during the event.
