Lecture with a Glass of Wine: Pirosmani

"The Universe of Pirosmani" – a vivid, extraordinary, and symbol-filled world, rich with Georgian artifacts, created by Niko Pirosmani. A strikingly simple yet profoundly meaningful Georgian national artist, he became a symbol of Georgia, artistic freedom, and determination.

What you will learn:
• How is Pirosmani connected to Shevardnadze, the Zdanevich brothers, Nabokov, and Pasternak?
• What recurring symbols appear in his paintings, and what meanings do they hold for us and the artist himself?
• How should we perceive "naïve art"? What is its significance, and why does "primitivism" not mean "primitive"?
• Why did he remain unrecognized during his lifetime, and how did he become famous afterward?

The lecture will be conducted by Pasha Rost—a painter, illustrator, and graduate of the Florentine Academy of Art, specializing in academic painting.
