On Saturday, we will talk about the artists who were pioneers of the painting movement that captured the fleeting nature of each moment and the freshness of impressions from the play of light and shadow: Claude Monet and Auguste Renoir. The painting style they created, of course, is Impressionism.
The artists were not only closely acquainted but often painted their works from the same perspective, which allows for a direct comparison of their paintings.
In the lecture, you will learn about:
The main principles of Impressionism and what outraged critics at its first exhibitions,
Where Auguste Renoir found inspiration and how Claude Monet searched for his subjects,
What technique to use for painting a canvas if you're on a tight deadline – realistic or impressionistic?
How did the ideal gardens of Monet and Renoir differ?
The lecture will be led by Galina Aprishkina, art historian and guide with many years of experience in Moscow and Tbilisi.
