The Peredvizhniki
A lecture by the Cultura Brunch community
“The painter of light,” “the magician of moonlit nights,” and “the wise Greek” —
Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi —
the most extraordinary artist among all representatives of the Russian school of painting within the Peredvizhniki movement.
An academic artist without formal academic education, whose mastery was envied by his contemporaries and whose vision of color and light none could surpass.
During the lecture, we will discuss:
What makes Kuindzhi’s painting so unique, and what secrets lie within his colors?
How did the son of a poor shoemaker become a great painter and a generous patron of the arts?
What is a “mono-exhibition,” and how did the taciturn Kuindzhi leave audiences speechless?
His friendship with Ilya Repin and Viktor Vasnetsov,
his teacher Ivan Aivazovsky, and his student Nicholas Roerich.
All this and much more will be discussed with our speaker
Pasha Rost — a painter, illustrator, and a graduate of the Florence Academy of Arts, Faculty of Academic Painting.
Start: Sunday, January 11, at 5:00 PM
Location: Art Cinema
Duration: approximately 2 hours
Price: 60 GEL
The price includes the lecture and a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic drink.
