When ancient board games are mentioned, people usually think of chess, checkers, and sometimes backgammon. But in reality, there were many more games. Have you ever heard of “Nine Men’s Morris” or “Alquerque”? These were once some of the most popular games, played almost everywhere.

Historian and archaeologist Pavel Kolosnitsyn will talk about board games popular in medieval Europe and Asia, especially in medieval Novgorod, and about how archaeologists and historians discover these games and reconstruct their rules.
