“Toward the Idea of God: From Antiquity to Modernity”
The presence of faith is often considered one of the unique characteristics of humans as social beings. As both humanity and society developed, various belief systems emerged — from animism, fetishism, and totemism to theism and ethical religions.
At this lecture, we will focus on the concept of God: how the idea of God was perceived in Antiquity, how the notions of the God-man and the transcendent God were combined in the Middle Ages, why the denial of God can also be considered a form of belief, and what might exist instead of God.
