In the fictional Zubrovka area is located the once famous Grand Budapest Hotel. A young porter named Zero learns his craft from the legendary concierge — Monsieur Gustave, thanks to whom he finds himself involved in an exciting detective adventure, the struggle for a huge fortune of a rich family against the backdrop of dramatic changes in Europe between the two world wars.
Anderson used a complex narrative technique, creating a story-box, a story-matryoshka. He generally likes small details and an abundance of characters and actions, but here he is also small at the level of the narrative structure: we have a novel in front of us, at the same time it is the memories of one of the heroes, and we see the same hero already aged. The film is a spectacle, a feast, for which the designers of costumes and scenery have done their best.
By the way, the main musical themes on balalaika, including the theme of the credits, were performed by the L. G. Zykina State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble «Russia».
