On Sunday, February 15, the fifth and final session of Pavel Usanov’s new course in Tbilisi will take place.
The lecture will focus on Italian fascism and Benito Mussolini.
What is the essence of fascism? How did Mussolini himself define it? How did he manage to seize power, and how did his path differ from that of Hitler and Stalin? What did Roosevelt learn from Italian fascism? Why was the Duce’s personal life so scandalous, and why did some call him a sexual maniac? How did the economy function in Fascist Italy? How did his regime differ from Hitler’s Nazism? What was the economic policy of corporatism, and what were its consequences?
These and many other questions will be addressed in detail during Pavel Usanov’s lecture.
What lessons can we draw from the dictatorships of the 20th century, and how can they be confronted in the 21st century?
In the final session, we will summarize the course “The Economics of Dictatorship,” examine the three most well-known dictatorships — Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini — explore the reasons for their collapse, and analyze how they differed from one another. Special attention will be given to Mussolini’s worldview and policies.
