It Was Just an Accident

A masterful blend of absurdist comedy and thriller, shot illegally in Iran by a daring, blacklisted filmmaker — this year’s Cannes winner.

By pure chance, an auto mechanic encounters a man who may have tortured him in prison and kidnaps him in pursuit of revenge. But since the only clue to identifying his tormentor is the creak of a prosthetic limb, the protagonist decides to test his suspicions by tracking down other now-freed victims of the regime — first finding them, then asking them to listen.
