Deep empathy and compassion are the underlying reasons for creating this series, the sole purpose of which was fueled by a wish to save Ukraine and Georgia, to restore life, and allow free and joyous living in a genuinely free and independent country.
It is difficult to convey the pain permeated by such dramatism and express sincere compassion toward the heroic people of Ukraine. I followed my feelings in an attempt to depict the scale of this tragedy with a glimmer of hope in the ruins, ransacked houses, razed cities or rooms, appearing out of somewhere in the form of "flowers of memory".
The series is called "The Disasters of War" – Los Desastres de la GuerraTwo hundred years ago, the great Francisco Goya created a series of prints under the same title expressing his protest against the occupation of his homeland. The reiteration—marked by the opening of this exhibition—will take place on Goya's birthday, March 29th.
