Since October 4, 2025, Georgia has been experiencing one of the most intense political periods in recent years.
The municipal elections — in which Kakha Kaladze, the incumbent mayor of Tbilisi and a member of the Georgian Dream party, won decisively — marked the beginning of a new wave of public discontent. Part of the opposition boycotted the elections, while others participated, accusing the authorities of violations.
After the elections, mass protests erupted, including an attempted storming of the presidential palace. These events have evolved into a large-scale civic movement that has been ongoing for more than three hundred days.
During the discussion, we will talk about:
● How did the municipal elections unfold, and why did their results trigger public dissatisfaction?
● What exactly happened near the Orbeliani Presidential Palace, and how did it affect the political atmosphere?
● Why did former President Salome Zurabishvili call the storming an “orchestrated act”?
● How have the government, the opposition, and international observers responded?
● What lies ahead for the country — new elections, reforms, or a deepening confrontation?
The discussion will be led by Giorgi Gegeshidze, a member of Library about Georgia and Kartveloba. Giorgi will present an overview and analysis of the events from October 4 up to today, followed by a collective discussion on how to preserve democracy and civic participation under political pressure.
We invite everyone interested in understanding the ongoing situation, hearing diverse perspectives, and discussing the future of Georgia.
