“Gaito Gazdanov – A Writer in Exile” – a lecture dedicated to the author’s birthday, delivered by poet and writer Andrey Orlovsky.

In addition to a biographical overview, the audience will hear readings of excerpts from Gazdanov’s works. The lecture will take place on the writer’s birthday and is dedicated to the 123rd anniversary of his birth.
In literary circles, Gaito Gazdanov was often called “the Russian Proust,” and critics considered him one of the most gifted writers of his generation. Nevertheless, he remains one of the most mysterious and underrecognized prose authors of the 20th century.
Andrey Orlovsky will talk about the 23 years Gazdanov worked as a taxi driver in Paris, his ideological opposition to Vladimir Nabokov, and the everyday life of the first wave of Russian emigration.
