A lecture dedicated to the author’s birthday by poet and writer Andrey Orlovsky.

Alongside an overview of Gazdanov’s biography, guests will hear selected readings from his works. The lecture takes place on the writer’s birthday and marks the 123rd anniversary of his birth.

In literary circles, Gaito Gazdanov was often called “the Russian Proust,” and critics considered him one of the most gifted writers of his generation. Yet he remains one of the most enigmatic and overlooked prose authors of the 20th century.

Andrey Orlovsky will speak about:
• the 23 years Gazdanov spent working as a taxi driver in Paris;
• his ideological opposition to Vladimir Nabokov;
• the everyday life of the first wave of Russian émigrés.
