A psychotherapist is left alone with her sick daughter and a cascade of everyday disasters. The film has received critical acclaim and several prestigious awards, largely for Rose Byrne’s performance.
Linda’s daughter refuses to eat regular food, so the girl relies on a gastrostomy tube. Linda’s husband is constantly away, and they mostly communicate by phone. When the ceiling in their apartment collapses, they are forced to move into a motel. Linda also doubts the usefulness of her daughter’s therapy sessions and skips appointments, for which she is reprimanded by the doctor. Tension mounts, and it becomes increasingly difficult for Linda to cope with everything that’s happening.
