A sad noir film by the important German director Petzold. Nelly is a former singer who miraculously survived a concentration camp. She returns to post-war Berlin to fix her disfigured face. After a successful operation, the heroine finds her lost husband, but he does not recognize Nelly because he is too sure of her death. Instead of a cozy family hearth, a game of deceit and manipulation begins, where a huge fortune, mental health, and secrets of the past are at stake.
The most "audience-friendly" film by Christian Petzold, a favorite of festivals and one of the most prominent directors of the so-called "Berlin School." In the lead role is Nina Hoss, his constant muse and one of the best contemporary German actresses.
