A cult thriller with elements of black humor, this is one of the best films by the Coen brothers.
An unsuccessful sales manager working for his father-in-law decides to pull off a small scam by kidnapping his daughter and his own wife. He hopes to demand a ransom for her and get rich. Two equally unsuccessful criminals (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) are hired for the kidnapping. Naturally, everything does not go according to plan, and the situation quickly becomes unexpectedly bloody.
The Coen Brothers:
- The main reason why all our criminals are portrayed as bunglers is our personal protest against the Hollywood stereotype: a bad guy is always a professional who controls every step. But in real life, everything is different. Most criminals belong to those layers of society that are least well adapted to life. That's why they are so often caught.
Young directors who earned their first camera by mowing lawns preferred to cast beginners and little-known actors in their films. As a result, "Fargo" brought fame not only to them but also to Joel Coen's wife, the face of independent Hollywood Frances McDormand, as well as her co-star William Macy.
