Eroticism in Art: From Antiquity to the 19th Century

Eroticism runs through all of art. The theme of sensual love appears in the art of every era and culture — sometimes boldly and passionately, sometimes gently and symbolically. In drawings, paintings, and sculpture, many artists explored human sexuality, engaging with cultural and moral values.

Few things in art history have sparked as much controversy as works with openly provocative content.
In this lecture, we will explore how the nude body has influenced the development of art and look at artworks spanning from ancient times to the end of the 19th century.
