Description

Interesting and unique Georgian monastery complexes, two of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

We will have a very interesting guide, Svetlana (with 8 years of experience, collaborating with major tour operators, including from Dubai, author of several tourist projects about Georgia, RU/ENG). She has an in-depth knowledge of the history of Armenia and all the details of this amazing country!

We will visit:

Akhtala Monastery, located on the edge of the Debed River gorge at the foot of Mount Lalvar.

The ruins of the 10th-century fortress of the Tashir-Dzoraget kingdom, from which only a vertical wall remains, extending along the sheer cliff of the gorge.

The frescoes of Akhtala, reflecting the blend of Byzantine, Georgian, and Armenian art.

Akhpat Monastery, an important monument of medieval Armenian city planning (characterized by an asymmetrical compact layout and a beautiful silhouette on a mountainous landscape: it is located on a small plateau, surrounded by gorges).

The monasteries of Akhpat and Sanahin (added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1996).

Sanahin Monastery, which gained importance as an educational center of Armenia.

We will have lunch at a café (not included in the price).
In total, we will travel approximately 250 km.

Meeting point: Rustaveli Metro station.

Location

Tbilisi
Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of around 1.2 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the fifth century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, and since then has served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Because of its location at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the lucrative Silk Road, throughout history, Tbilisi has been a point of contention among various global powers. To this day, the city's location ensures its position as an important transit route for energy and trade projects. Tbilisi's history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, neoclassical, Beaux Arts, Art Nouveau, Stalinist, and Modern structures. Historically, Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though its population is overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian.
