Edgar Degas is an artist who did not seek the applause of the public; he simply wanted to create his own art: experimenting with new materials, exploring unconventional themes, capturing unexpected angles and effects, and portraying characters that are not stereotypical.
He turned his gaze to scenes of modern life in Paris and did so with extraordinary refinement and insight, almost like eavesdropping... He was not interested in superficial gloss; he focused on form. He did not require posed figures but captured movement. His works depict life without embellishment, yet beauty emerges from the canvases.
In our meeting, we will see the paradoxical Degas — the painter, the sculptor, and the photographer. We will look behind the scenes of 19th-century Paris through the eyes of an artist who managed to freeze time.
The lecture will be conducted by Olga Kovalenko, an art historian and popularizer of contemporary art in Batumi.
