We’re repeating our journey to this one-of-a-kind city (see photos 1, 2, and videos, including drone footage 1 & 2).
Chiatura was one of the first cities in the USSR where cable cars became public transport!
The number of passenger and cargo cable lines here is absolutely unique.
Neighborhoods are hundreds of meters above the city center, and cable cars became the main way to get around.
Mgvimevi Monastery — a women’s monastery partially carved into a cliff. Inside one of the chapels, you can see a real stalagmite!
Katskhi Pillar (40 meters tall) — one of Georgia’s most iconic landmarks, near Chiatura.
In the 1950s, alpinists discovered ancient ruins on top of the pillar!
