Documentary Film Screening & Discussion

Join us for a screening of two documentary films by the independent studio Raz/rez, created in collaboration with Mediazona: Dog Flight and The Last Camp.

After the screenings, we invite everyone to stay for an open discussion. Together with journalists, environmental experts, and specialists, we'll explore the issues raised in the films and examine them from different perspectives.

• Daria Zaitseva — Director of the Dog of Happiness Foundation, which took part in the events portrayed in Dog Flight
• Denis Simonov — Specialist in behavioral rehabilitation and home socialization of stray dogs, Director and Founder of the NGO Ratipia
• Alexey Ovchinnikov — Environmental expert, Editor at UWEC Work Group
• Dmitry Shvets — Journalist at Mediazona
• Lena Chesnokova — Journalist, editor, and host of the podcasts A Matter of Time and Why Are We Still Alive?

Following the screening, we'll discuss how documentary filmmaking helps bring attention to complex social issues and why these stories deserve to be told.

We'll examine the consequences of the fuel oil spill in the Black Sea, its potential impact on Georgia's coastline, the long-term environmental risks for the region's ecosystems, and the vital role played by volunteers involved in the clean-up efforts.

A separate part of the discussion will focus on the issue of stray animals. Together with invited experts, we'll compare approaches taken in Russia and Georgia to managing stray dog populations, discuss humane alternatives to euthanasia, explore how legislation affects the situation, and consider practical ways each of us can help animals today.
