"Mother Courage and her children" is the story of Anna Firling (Mother Courage), a traveling merchant and her children. In the performance, it is told about twelve years of wandering merchant women with their children and goods across Poland and the trenches of the Thirteenth War (1618-1648). The figure of the main character is not the same: war for her — благо, she brings profit, although she loses children. So the play posed a sharp and painful question, very relevant for the post-war era: what is the human consciousness, if you look at it without embellishments?
