Synopsis
The immortal prose of David Kldiashvili, by its very nature, has always attracted—and continues to attract—the attention of Georgian (and not only Georgian) theatre. The Batumi Drama Theatre is no exception.
Director Giorgi Kashia, in collaboration with Valeri Otkhozoria, has created a stage adaptation of Darispan’s Troubles. A classic remains a classic because in every era it reveals reality from a new angle and with a fresh perspective. Kldiashvili’s Darispan travels from generation to generation, carrying both comedy and tragedy, unhealed pain and timeless questions.
Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Drama Theatre opened in 1952 and is the oldest dramatic theatre in Ajara, based in the centre of Batumi.
