“Constructing an Image” — a lecture by photographer Misha Shestakov

How is an expressive shot born? What distinguishes a random snapshot from a thoughtfully composed work? In this lecture we'll talk about how to consciously build an image and use the expressive means of the frame.

Misha Shestakov will dissect a few portrait shots “bone by bone” and show how to control the process of creating a work: light, background, distance, composition, emotion, direction of gaze, color accents, hand placement — we’ll discuss everything that shapes an expressive frame.
