Agnès Varda’s CLÉO FROM 5 TO 7 follows a young singer over the course of ninety minutes as she waits for the results of a medical test. Set in near real time, the film tracks her movement through Paris as she shifts from self-conscious performance toward a more grounded awareness of herself and the world around her.
What begins as a study of vanity and image becomes something more direct and human. Varda uses mirrors, reflections, and street encounters to show how Cléo is seen by others and how she begins to see herself differently. The city is not just a setting but an active presence that shapes her experience.
CLÉO FROM 5 TO 7 offers a precise account of time, attention, and the slow movement from fear toward acceptance. It also features an wonderful performance from Corinne Marchand who balances vulnerability with a kind of quiet detachment.
