City of Anara

Tadeoz Toroselidze, a true lover of wine, once won a massive traditional drinking horn known as a “kantsi.” According to tradition, the owner of the kantsi is the one who can drain it to the very end. Soon, strangers begin arriving at Toroselidze’s home, all eager to claim the horn. And where there is wine, there is feasting. Overwhelmed by the constant flow of guests and the growing chaos, the family begins to dream of just one thing — getting rid of the kantsi.

The film received two awards at the International Festival of Comedy and Satirical Films in Gabrovo in 1977:
the Grand Prize for “Best Comedy Film of the Year” and the award for Best Actor (Rezo Esadze).
In 1978, the film won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival.
