The Face of Another

An existential science fiction film based on the screenplay by renowned Japanese avant-gardist Kobo Abe, about a disfigured chemist named Okuyama who undergoes a failed experiment. Literally losing his face, Mr. Okuyama agrees to a radical experiment proposed by his psychiatrist: a face transplant created from a mold of a stranger. Now he is a different person, free from his past life, from his own wife and friends, finally free from himself.

 After the film, we’ll brew some tea and share our impressions. The meeting will be led by philosopher and co-founder of the cinema Varya Vlasova.
