One of the main films by Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai.
The film consists of unrelated (except for the location) stories about two Hong Kong police officers. The first story is about Officer 223 and his chance encounter with a mysterious woman who deals drugs. The second story is about Officer 663, who is pursued by a snack bar worker.
At the Stockholm Film Festival, the film was seen by Quentin Tarantino: "I couldn't help but shed tears when I watched it, and not because the film is so sad; I was just incredibly happy that I could love it so much." Later, Quentin took on the promotion of the film in the US and ensured its successful fate in American theaters.
The cheap, mobile, and incredibly flashy "Express," shot in six weeks during lunch breaks, instantly made Kar-Wai the trendiest director in the world. Not for nothing: he was the first to reconcile the aesthetics of a music video with heartfelt art cinema.
