Chicken with Plums

This week we remember Iranian artist and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi — creator of the graphic novel and animated film *Persepolis*, who made the seemingly “exotic” events of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran accessible and relatable to Western audiences. *Chicken with Plums* is her second feature film, created together with French comic book author Vincent Paronnaud, known for his dark sense of humor.

The famous Tehran musician Nasser-Ali breaks his beloved violin. After several unsuccessful attempts to replace it, he takes to his bed with the firm intention of dying exactly eight days later. As he waits, Nasser-Ali recalls his past, the love of his life, and the chain of accidents that brought him to where he is now.

*Chicken with Plums* tells a fundamentally tragic story in a colorful and magical way, full of lightness and melancholic humor, reminding us that the greatest catastrophes in life often begin with things that nobody else takes seriously.
