Captain Fantastic

This summer at FOMO, we're celebrating the families we're born into, the families we build, and the people who shape who we become. Few films explore those ideas more thoughtfully than Captain Fantastic.

Viggo Mortensen stars as Ben, a father raising his six children deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, far from schools, smartphones and modern society. When a family tragedy forces them back into the outside world, their fiercely independent way of life is suddenly put under the microscope.

Funny, heartfelt and endlessly thought-provoking, Captain Fantastic doesn't offer easy answers. Instead, it asks what we owe our children, what we inherit from our parents, and whether there's ever such a thing as the "right" way to raise a family.

Set against breathtaking forests and mountains, it's a film that feels right at home beneath the open sky. Equal parts comedy, road movie and family drama, it's one of the most memorable and rewarding films of the past decade.
