Bring Her Back

“Bring Her Back” — a horror film that continues the trend of “elevated” genre cinema from the creators of last year’s hit Talk to Me, twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou. The Shape of Water star Sally Hawkins plays a mother who has lost her child and decides to adopt two children who have just lost their father. The story unfolds into a psychological horror about resurrecting the ones we love — at times genuinely repulsive.

Slightly eccentric yet deeply empathetic, Laura has recently lost her daughter, who drowned in a swimming pool. She decides to adopt two siblings — a visually impaired girl, the same age as her late daughter (played by visually impaired newcomer Sora Wong), and her older brother. Together they find themselves, like Hansel and Gretel, in Laura’s gingerbread house, where the dark fairytale of orphaned children transforms into the tragedy of a grieving mother.
