A new book is the perfect moment to join our book club 📚🌿
On April 2 (Thursday), the book club meets to begin a discussion of the novel “The Joke” — the text that marks the beginning of Milan Kundera’s major prose.
Our format: one month — one book — two meetings.
How can you join the book club and what to expect?
– Send us a direct message expressing your interest, and we will add you to the book club Telegram chat.
– April 2 — first meeting: we’ll discuss the context of mid-20th century Czechoslovakia, Kundera’s biography, how irony works in the text, and why a “joke” turns into tragedy. We will also form key questions to help you read the novel more deeply.
– Over the next 2–3 weeks (to be agreed at the first meeting), we read the novel and meet again for an in-depth discussion: analyzing narrative structure, and themes of memory, the body, power, and personal freedom.
Participation fee: 50 GEL — includes both meetings
✨ The sessions are led by Maria Silkina — literary scholar, philologist, and playwright.
We look forward to welcoming new participants!
