Muscular Amazons and athletic Olympic winners, curvaceous patricians, disembodied Medieval martyrs, plump ladies and gentlemen of the Baroque era and flowing silhouettes of beauties of the Art Nouveau era. Beauty is not an absolute concept, and those forms that were considered ideal in one era could well cause disgust in another.
Using examples of works of art from different centuries, we will analyze what the S-shaped line of beauty is, how it changed, what these fluctuations depended on, and also whether it was possible to have success without meeting generally accepted standards, and how did those whose physique “got out of fashion” get out of the situation?
