We have a tradition: we show 4 seasonal tales by Eric Rohmer in winter, spring, summer, and, accordingly, autumn.
Magali is forty-five years old, a winemaker by profession, and a widow by family status. After her adult children left home, she felt a little lonely, and her best friend, Isabelle, decided to find a new husband for her. Without Magali's knowledge, Isabelle places an ad in the local newspaper and finds a pleasant candidate named Gerald.
At the same time, Rosine (Magali's son's girlfriend) intends to introduce her potential mother-in-law to her former philosophy teacher (and ex-lover) Etienne. As a result, the unsuspecting Magali meets both men at once.
This film, like other "tales," is made by Rohmer in his signature style of "as if nothing is happening, but the devil is in the details."
Two awards from the Venice Film Festival, including Best Screenplay.
