“Autumn in Didgori” — Hiking with a Biologist
This Sunday, join biologist Alexey Sivukhin for an autumn hike through a mountain forest. The trail will take us along woodland paths and up to a plateau offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, where we may spot birds of prey soaring overhead. Along the way, we’ll also visit a small pond inhabited by tailed amphibians.
Autumn is the season when forest fruits ripen and certain unusual plants come into bloom. During the hike, participants will have the opportunity to gather cornelian cherries, hawthorn berries, cherry plums, and rosehips. We’ll also pass through meadows covered in blooming Colchicum speciosum (showy autumn crocus). This fascinating plant has an unusual life cycle: its flowers appear in autumn, while its leaves and fruits emerge only the following spring.
Together with Alexey Sivukhin, we’ll explore the local forest’s flora and fauna, discover how wildlife adapts to the changing seasons, and learn to notice fascinating natural phenomena that often go unnoticed during ordinary walks.
The route includes an uphill climb, so comfortable footwear and suitable outdoor clothing are essential.
