Presentation of a new book authored by Mikhail Gelfand, Evgeny Kunin, Alexander Markov, Armen Mulkidzhanyan, Mikhail Nikitin, and Boris Stern.
Billions of years ago, life appeared on our planet. How did this happen? What were the twists and turns of evolution on the path to intelligence? How unique is life on Earth in the Universe? What are the chances of life emerging on another planet? Can it leap across the interstellar abyss?
This book is based on interviews conducted by a physicist with biologists—leading scientists and well-known science popularizers. The authors attempt, if not to answer these incredibly complex questions—since there are no clear, definitive answers today—at least to outline approaches to solving them.
One of the authors of the book, astrophysicist Boris Stern, in his lecture, as part of the book presentation, will focus particularly on the prospects for settling Earth life on exoplanets within reach.
