Astro Tour: Into the Mountains for the Perseid Meteor Shower
Day 1 | Hiking & Sunset
We arrive at Gomismta, then continue even deeper into the mountains—far from the crowds. After settling into our campsite or cozy cabins (depending on your chosen accommodation), we'll gather together to watch the sunset.
Gomismta is famous for its spectacular sea of clouds, where clouds often stretch beneath your feet while the peaks of the Greater Caucasus rise above them. On especially clear days, you can even spot Mount Elbrus.
The clouds don't appear on command—but they often surprise us.
Evening | Astronomy Experience
After dark, the highlight of the trip begins.
Wrapped in blankets with a cup of hot cocoa by the campfire, we'll watch the night sky during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower—one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year.
If you've never seen a shooting star before, this is the perfect place to experience it: over 2,000 meters above sea level, far from city lights.
Our naturalist will explain:
What meteors are and why the Perseids return every year
How to tell planets from stars
How to find the brightest constellations
The fascinating myths and legends inspired by the night sky
We'll also observe the sky through a telescope, searching for planets, star clusters, and deep-sky objects invisible from the city.
Don't forget to make a wish!
Day 2 | Breakfast in the Mountains
We'll start the morning slowly and comfortably.
Instead of a typical camping breakfast, you'll enjoy fresh croissants, aromatic coffee, and peaceful mountain views.
We'll have breakfast in a meadow while watching the mountains wake up.
Day 2 | Hike to Lake Chinchao
After breakfast we'll hike to Lake Chinchao.
Along the way we'll discover alpine flowers, observe insects, learn about mountain ecosystems, and, if we're lucky, spot newts living in the lake.
With our guide Alina, you'll notice countless fascinating details that most hikers simply pass by.
