With the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and Tbilisi City Hall, the Tbilisi State Chamber Orchestra “Georgian Sinfonietta” will present, for the first time in Georgia, an authentic staging and performance of the Baroque opera “Ottone in Villa,” the first opera by Antonio Vivaldi. Performances will take place on March 3, 5, 6, and 8 at the Small Stage of the Rustaveli National Theatre.
The opera premiered in 1713 in Vicenza at Teatro delle Garzerie. The Rustaveli Theatre was chosen deliberately: its Small Stage interior and dimensions resemble the original Vicenza theatre, allowing the production to recreate the atmosphere of Vivaldi’s time. Most importantly, the music will be performed on historical instruments in an authentic style.
The project features Georgian and international performers:
Maximiliano Danta (countertenor) — Ottone
Paola Valentina Molinari (soprano) — Cleonilla
Tamar Tsirekidze (soprano) — Caio
Fabiana Vizentini (soprano) — Tullia
Matteo Straffi (tenor) — Decio
Stage Director — Ilaria Sainato
Assistant Director — Tata Popiashvili
Together with the Georgian Sinfonietta, invited international performers and Baroque music specialists will participate:
Sergio Azzolini — bassoon
Diego Cantalupi — theorbo, guitar
Gabriele Levi — harpsichord
Giuseppe Falcilia — Oboe I / flute
Clément Diezi — Oboe II / flute
Sophie Lamberbourg — cello
