This cult cyberpunk film is based on a manga of the same name and revolves around a conspiracy between corporations and the military, leading to the birth of an unknown new world in the ruins of Tokyo after the Third World War.
It is a monumental film project with unprecedentedly detailed animation for its time and incredible attention to lighting and color. Almost the entire Japanese animation industry was involved in the creation of "Akira" in one way or another.
"Akira" marks a dividing point in the history of anime. While anime was previously only watched and loved in Japan, now the Western world has encountered the explosive, incomprehensible, and all-encompassing force of Japanese animation.
