This Thursday, we invite you to a screening of one of the most exciting debut films of recent years — Aftersun, directed by British filmmaker Charlotte Wells. The young director created a tender, emotionally rich film about a father and daughter spending a vacation together in Turkey.
Aftersun is an opportunity to talk about how cinematic language conveys emotions, how feelings can tell a story, and how the process of growing up unfolds. It’s also a great chance to discuss today’s new generation of filmmakers and one of the best uses of the song Under Pressure in the history of cinema.
The film was named one of the best of 2022 by critics, and Paul Mescal received an Oscar nomination for his performance.
The screening and discussion series dedicated to debut films by renowned directors is hosted by Nikita Kulikov (@coolikovnick) — journalist, filmmaker, and Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television.
