“A Jar of Wishes” is a physical and musical theatre performance inspired by the сюжет of Sulxan-Saba Orbeliani’s fable “The Beggar and the Jar of Butter.”

The production reinterprets the classical text in an allegorical form and brings it to life through a contemporary stage language. The performance features traditional Georgian music — both folk instrumental pieces and compositions by Sulxan Tsintsadze.

The visual world is inspired by the paintings of Niko Pirosmani and is realized through video installations.

The characters narrate the fable’s storyline through choreography incorporating elements of traditional Georgian dance. Notably, only the plot of the well-known fable is used — the original text by Sulxan-Saba is not included; instead, folk poetry is featured.

Age restriction: 7+

Location

Nodar Dumbadze Theater (ნოდარ დუმბაძის თეატრი)
In 1928 Alexander Takaishvili created the Georgian Theater of the Young Spectator. The premiere of the first performance "Fritz Bauer" (N. Sats) took place on 11 November. It was followed by performances: "Robin Hood" (S. Zayatsky), "The Man in Black Glasses" (V. Kurdyumov), "Hiawatha" (N. Ognev) and others. Spectators watched the performances with great interest. The success of these performances is the merit of the artists: G. Kuprashvili, T. Tvaliashvili, G. Darispanashvili, M. Ergneli, a little later: V. Areshidze, I. Ninua, A. Kachkachishvili, N. Sirbiladze, D. Tskhakaia, N. Khorava, M. Dzhadzhanashvili, I. Donauri, G. Deisadze, A. Kiasashvili, D. Dzneladze, A. Gviniashvili and others. In 1998, the Georgian and Russian Theater of the Young Spectator merged under the name of the Central Children's Theater named after N. Dumbadze. The theater began its joint activities in the former building of the Russian Youth Theater. Thanks to the Cartu Charitable Foundation and the theater management, the building was completely reconstructed.
