A winter retro comedy about a boy's childhood in the 1940s. Ralphie encounters harsh reality early on: Christmas is approaching, and his parents flatly refuse to fulfill his dream of a toy gun because "a child could shoot his eye out"! In desperation, Ralphie decides to seek help from Santa Claus.
Usually, Christmas movies about children have varying degrees of sugary sentimentality. This film is a happy exception. Simultaneously sweet and cynical, it will appeal to both fans of family comedies and life-weary pessimists.
