By the 1930s, a main art direction had formed in Soviet Russia - socialist realism, and everything that was not part of its was cut off, subjected to persecution, and then repression. Ideology very quickly sorted out who was friend and who was not. But art, inheriting the discoveries of the avant-garde and, in general, the trends of world modernism, somehow survived.
