Democracy as a political regime and as a social system is not a panacea. As practice shows, it is not enough to express a desire to build democracy and adopt new laws. Without a solid foundation, democracy can easily turn into a fiction and its opposite.
But what does it take for democracy to work? Modern social science is trying to answer these questions. Let's try it too!
At the meeting we will discuss:
Italy as an ideal example for comparative studies
Approaches explaining the development of regions and countries
The role of institutions, the role of economics, the role of culture
Civic virtues as the key to democracy (and not only in Italy)
